Shower Valve Stuck
I was in Fallbrook this morning, replacing a cartridge in a Positemp shower valve. Positemp is a Moen brand. I was thinking about the difference between the old style and how you know you have a positemp. The old style valve you pulled it out turned it to the left to deliver hot water turn it to the right for cold and you pushed it in to shut it off. The new style pressure balancing positemp valve you dial it to the left to turn it on and all the way to the left to get hot water and just turn it to the right to turn it off. One of the biggest differences is that Because positemp is a pressure balancing valve the cartridge has a stainless steel piston in it that has to move back and forth to balance the hot and cold water. If you don't use that shower valve for long periods of time, corrosion can build up on that piston and then you'll turn it on and you won't get hot water. That piston will not move anymore. So, it's very important that people turn those on and off, once a week. In the industry we call that lubricating the valve because it breaks upset corrosion that can cause that valve to malfunction. And that's exactly what happened. They don't use that one shower. They have company coming to the holidays. And no hot water, so we put in a new cartridge.
Fallbrook outdoor shower leak.
A customer with a pin hole leak. The spiral copper supply line coming off of the angle stop where the angle stop and supply line are one piece. So we're gonna change the angle stop to a ball valve quarter turn and a stainless steel supply line on both the hot and cold lines. It doesn't pay to just do one for the labor cost probably better off to do both of the same time. She agreed. And then they had an island that doesn't work. They changed all the filters. Now they've got no water pressure. So they drain the tank and the tank has a membrane in it, and it should have 4 pounds on it.
